Split view & artifacts

When the panel slides in, how to pin it, and the Artifact Navigator for a whole-session view.

Updated 2026-04-17

Tablize has one window but four layouts. Which one you see depends on what the Agent just produced. This page walks through when each layout appears and how to drive them manually.

If you haven’t read Core concepts, the short version is: Chat is the default, Split appears when there’s something to look at, Artifact is full-screen, and Flow is the whole-session view.

Chat — the default

One column, 720px wide, centered. This is where most questions start and most answers live. Short text answers, small charts, tool calls — all fit comfortably here.

You’re in Chat when:

  • You first open a session.
  • The Agent’s answer is small enough to read in place.
  • You’ve manually collapsed the panel.

Split — when there’s something to look at

Chat (left)
You keep talking. Ask follow-ups. The Agent keeps answering. Tool calls stream here.
Artifact (right)
The thing worth looking at — a Report, a generated App, a Dashboard, a map, a full-size chart.
· Split view — chat on the left, artifact on the right

The panel slides in automatically when the Agent produces any of:

  • A generated App or Dashboard.
  • A Report (when you Keep one, or when you open a saved one).
  • An image — chart image, camera frame, extracted figure.
  • A map — IoT spatial view, geographic chart.
  • A large table (> 50 rows). The Agent decides based on width + length.

You can also force split manually — click the Split button in the turn’s actions menu, or keyboard ⌘ \.

Artifact — full-screen

Artifact (full screen)
Review a long Report. Test a generated App. Drag around a geospatial view. The floating 💬 in the bottom-right returns to chat when you're done.
💬
· Artifact takes the whole screen; the 💬 button returns to chat

When you want more room. Click the expand icon in the panel header, or keyboard ⌘ ⇧ \.

Chat is not gone — it’s collapsed to a single button (💬) in the bottom-right. Click it to slide the chat back out over the artifact, or hit ⌘ \ to go back to Split.

The Agent still runs in the background. Long tasks that spawn while you’re in Artifact show a small notification badge on the 💬 button.

Flow — the session overview

· Flow — every question and every kept asset from this session

Flow is the bird’s-eye view of the whole session. Every question you asked and every asset you kept, laid out in time order. Kept assets (Reports, Scripts, Watches, Dashboards, Apps) are highlighted in gold; questions-that-didn’t-lead-to-anything are greyed.

Open it with:

  • The Flow tab in the top-right of any session.
  • Keyboard ⌘ ⇧ F.

Flow is most useful when:

  • A session has gone long and you want to remember what came out of it.
  • You’re picking which turn to share with a teammate (“remember the one where we figured out the margin thing”).
  • You want to clean up — delete stale turns, keep the ones worth keeping.

Click any card in Flow to jump back to that turn in chat.

Pinning and unpinning

Any artifact can be pinned to stay open across turns:

  • Pin (📌 icon in the panel header) — the artifact stays on screen even as you ask new questions.
  • Unpin to let the next artifact take the panel.
  • Pinned state is per-session. Unpinning releases without closing.

Useful when you want a Dashboard open while you ask side questions, or a Report visible while you chat about edits.

Default behaviors by artifact type

Some artifacts have opinionated defaults:

  • Apps and Dashboards auto-open in Split the first time they’re created, so you see them being built.
  • Reports auto-open in Split when Saved.
  • Generated images auto-open in Split — the Agent wants you to see the picture.
  • Maps (IoT spatial) auto-open in Split if the session is already in chat-only; they take you to Artifact if you clicked to explore.

You can override any default in Settings → Display.

Next steps

  • Reading the answer — what’s in the chat side of Split.
  • Dashboards — the most pin-worthy artifact.
  • Apps — the heaviest artifact the Agent can generate.
